What to look at
- Width: 60 cm is the family standard, 45 cm a slimline for a small kitchen; a countertop dishwasher sits on the worktop and needs no built-in space.
- Place settings: a countertop model holds about 6, a slimline 9 to 10, a full-size 13 to 15. One setting is plates, glasses and cutlery for one person.
- Type: freestanding has its own top and can go anywhere, built-in (fully integrated) hides behind a kitchen unit door.
- Energy label: since 1 March 2021 it uses an A to G scale and shows energy per 100 eco cycles, place settings, eco programme length, water per cycle and noise.
- Noise: for an open-plan kitchen look for lower dB(A); Whirlpool states 43 dB for the W7F HP33 X and 47 dB for the WSIC 3M27 C.
- Spare parts: under EU rules the maker must supply parts such as hinges, seals, spray arms, filters and racks for 10 years.

Common mistakes
- Buying a built-in model for a spot without units, or a freestanding one where it should hide behind a door.
- Not measuring the height under the worktop and the width of the gap.
- Running the dishwasher half empty; the label's consumption applies to a full eco load.
- Comparing the eco programme's length with a quick programme; eco is long because it saves energy.
Häufige Fragen
Slimline or full-size?
For one or two people a slimline (45 cm, about 10 settings) is enough. For a family a full-size (60 cm, 13 to 15 settings) is more convenient.
Why does the eco programme take so long?
It washes at a lower temperature for longer to save energy. The energy label figures apply to it.
What is a fully integrated dishwasher?
A built-in model hidden entirely behind a kitchen unit door; the controls sit on the top edge of the door.
